Macro

Given that we’re seeking such tiny subjects, it always seems to me that Macro photography should instead be called Micro photography. But apparently, the term derives from the fact that the tiny subjects in question are made to look large - that is, macroscopic. And who am I to argue? :-)

The key is being able to focus very close to the camera, which usually requires a specialised Macro lens (mine is an 80mm prime). Once this is fitted, and allowing for the resulting shallow depth of field, there’s a whole new world to explore!

More Macro - A ‘Small’ Addendum

Although some shots are courtesy of explorations in Arran or Cornwall, a large number of the Macro images displayed on this page were created in my home county of Devon. Many of them, in fact, capture scenes from my own back garden, often when lockdown measures decreed that we couldn’t readily venture much further.

It just goes to show that a lack of ‘epic locations’ needn’t be a hindrance to fun photography! :-)
