Mountains
Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to have explored many of Britain’s bobbly bits. More than any other muse, these mountain landscapes are responsible for inspiring my love of the natural world - and with it, my photographic doodles.
With hill-trips now at a premium - and my current portfolio only picking up pace in 2020 - the initial images presented here are very much an Ode to Arran. This is hopefully not too much of a constraint, as the rugged granite peaks of this wee Scottish island provide a worthwhile study in their own right, their personality as spiky as their rocky summits!
A trip to Moidart during September 2023 has allowed me to augment my Arran archive with just a few shots from Scotland’s magnificent Western Highlands…

Mountain Meanderings, Part 1 - Isle of Arran (Scotland)
If Two Ronnies (One Corbett) had Four Candles, where do Two Glens (One Island) have Four Corbetts? Yep, it’s the Forked (Handled) Mountains of Arran… ;-)
Mountain Meanderings, Part 2 - Western Highlands (Scotland)
The brief selection below is from a family trip to Moidart during September 2023. Highlights include a Loch Moidart cloud inversion, plus day-trips to the Isle of Eigg and Ardnamurchan (Ben Hiant).
Mountain Archives - The Rocky Recesses of Memory Lane
While my Mountain portfolio is currently quite concise, I should acknowledge that many more memories are vying for attention in a rich personal history of ups and downs amid Britain’s loftiest terrain (for more on this, please see my Archive pages). These old images are too numerous or dog-eared to display here, though some of them - including reclaimed film shots from historic Highland adventures - can be found elsewhere on this website.
To view a selection of archive imagery presented in context (some might say too much context!), please check out my feature-length ‘wilderness’ blogs…
