Woodland

Although with roots firmly planted in landscape photography, the subject of Woodland has very much carved its own genre. Less sweeping; more intimate. Yet whilst it’s easy to shoot something, it’s less easy to shoot something good - a classic case, perhaps, of not being able to see the wood for the trees. Or at least, that’s my excuse! :-0

So while I claim no particular expertise in woodland work, it’s definitely something that I’d like to pursue. Or rather, to branch out into, swapping the trunk roads for the forest… and although it may be tough to twig, I’m hoping that the genre’s bark will be worse than its bite. And so on. Let’s just cut to the pictures…

Ancient Woods and Pastures New

I must admit that my local patch of mature woodland at Killerton Park (Devon) does a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of this section’s portfolio input. And as an aside, Killerton doesn’t only appear on this Woodland page… parts of the wider estate also pop up under Countryside (Killerton House), Monochrome (Killerton Woods) and Wildlife (Wild Highland Coo), before adopting a slightly cosmic slant under Astro (Hobbit Tree).

But to guard against a complete monopoly, the mini-gallery below does venture a little further afield into ‘pastures new’ - not only elsewhere in rural Devon, but also north of the border to the leafy idylls of Arran and (especially) East Lothian.
